This is a huge laptop. It weighs more than other 17 inch laptops around and you will not like to carry it around. The laptop’s lid has a mate black finish which has a rubbery feel to it. It is not a fingerprint magnet. The rear part of the device sports two air vents and they ensure the laptop does not get overheated. The 17.3-inch display has a glossy coating and it is rather bright. The resolution of the screen is 1600×900 and the viewing angles are rather generous.
The Asus G73SW-BST6 has a spacious keyboard with chic let style keyboard along with a numeric keypad. The keypad is backlit which means you can use it at night with lights off and play games easily. The sound system of the laptop is rather impressive owing to the inclusion of a sub woofer. The 2.1-channel speakers generate crisp and loud sound which is pleasing. Asus provides a Splendid button that lest you change through some display presets. There is a hardware button for changing the power modes as well.
Asus offers a USB 3.0 Port along with HDMI in this laptop. It means faster data transfer will be a breeze. You can also enjoy your movies of your HDTV using the HDMI port. However, on such a high end and expensive laptop you can expect a blu ray drive. Asus provides only a DVD RW drive. There are other goodies like 4G WiMAX broadband, an 8-in-1 card reader and 2.0-megapixel webcam. For storage there is a speedy 720 RPM 750 GB hard drive. In terms of software you get Windows 7 Home Premium edition and a number of apps by Asus.
The laptop beats other contenders hands down owing to combination of Intel Core i7-2630QM processor and 8GB RAM. It gives the new Dell XPS a run for its money and comes very close to the performance of Apple MacBook Pro in multimedia apps. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M graphics chip used in the model is extremely powerful and it handles demanding games with ease.
