Rating 3.00 out of 5

Feb 22, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) In what can turn out to be the first major upset in this years ICC Cricket World Cup, Netherlands have literally beaten the England seamers into a pulp after posting a mammoth total of 292/6 in the first innings. England, who are still basking with the Ashes success succumbed to a great batting display led by Ryan ten Doeschate who went on to score 119 runs off 110 balls, steeing his team to set a pretty competitive target.

Netherlands being touted as the minnows before coming into the match never looked uncomfortable against the English pace attack and laid a viscous attack against England. A bit upset by the sudden Dutch onslaught, the English bowlers failed to maintain a decent line and length. Earlier, Netherlands won the toss and chose to bat in their Group B world cup opening match. The Dutch openers went off to a flier scoring 36 runs in the first six overs. The momentum was already built and Ryan ten Doeschate capitalized on the situation  followed by a late 24 ball 35 by Dutch captain Peter Borren, to steer his team to a competitive total. The only saving grace for England was spinner David Swann who ended with figures 35 for two. James Anderson faltered against the brilliant batting display from Netherlands, and ended giving away 72 runs in his ten overs.

The entire cricketing world are now glued to their seat to watch of what is being touted as the first major upset in this year’s cricket world cup. All eyes are now on the English batsmen who would thrive hard to win so as to save a possible embarrassment.
