Chicago, June 28, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Rod Blagojevich, the former Governor of Illinois, has been found guilty on 17 to 20 counts on Monday. The jury convicted him for trying to sell the senate seat of U. S. that was once held by President Barack Obama. It was his second trial in Chicago and the jury found Rod Blagojevich guilty of extracting money for some campaign funds as well. The law enforcement officials are of the opinion that the former Governor could face up to 300 years in jail. However, the experts say that he might face prison sentence for 10 years.
Rod Blagojevich seemed perplexed when the jury read out the verdict. The eyewitnesses said that the former Governor looked at his defense lawyer and asked him what had happened. After he understood the whole situation, he told his wife that he loves her. On the other hand, his wife, Patti Blagojevich, broke down in tears when the jury announced the first verdict. When the journalists asked Rod Blagojevich about his reaction, the ex-Governor said that he has learned the most difficult lesson of his life and hence he would like to speak as less as possible. He said, “Patti and I are obviously very disappointed. I frankly am stunned”.
Rod Blagojevich said that he has nothing more to say but all he wants is to go home and sort out things. Blagojevich was arrested in December 9, 2008 on federal charges of corruption that included solicitation of bribery and conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. The former Governor earned realms of newsprint when FBI released a tape in which he said that his chance to appoint to appoint a new member to the Senate is a “golden” opportunity for him. The jury came to a conclusion that he tried to sell the appointment for his own personal benefit.
