Caracas, Venezuela, July 1, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) On Thursday night, the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez announced that he was suffering from cancer. This announcement ended speculations about the President’s condition and his sudden absence from publ9ic life. In his speech broadcast Hugo Chavez said that the doctors identified and removed the cancerous tumor from his body and presently he is recuperating (“evolving satisfactorily”). However, the President did not reveal where the tumor was and when he is getting back to Venezuela.

In his speech, President Hugo Chavez said that the doctors discovered “abscessed tumor with cancerous cells” after they operated the pelvic abscess. Hence, the doctors operated again and removed the cancerous tumor without any such complication. 56-year-old president also said that this phase is nothing but a new battle that life has given before him. On the other hand, he admitted that the doctors were giving him complimentary treatments to fight with the various kinds of cancerous cells found in his body.

While speaking about his present condition, President Hugo Chavez said that all his life, he has neglected his health and he had always been reluctant to get check ups. The closing lines of the speech were, “Now and always, we will live and we will overcome. Thank you very much. Until my return”. After President’s speech, the Vice President of Venezuela, Elias Jaua appeared on the stage and said that the citizens should not feel sad as this is the time for work and for courage to face the hardships in life. The Vice President asked the nation to get united at this crisis situation. The government of Venezuela has postponed Latin American leaders’ summit next week owing to President Hugo Chavez’s health issues. The Foreign Ministry released a statement stating that the President is presently recuperating and he is under “extremely strict medical treatment”.
