MAR 29 (PRINTWORDS NEWS)- After Apple iPad had hit the market last year and turned out to be a whopping success all the electronics giants jumped on the tablet bandwagon and scrambled to release their tablets. Samsung was the fastest and came up with Galaxy Tab. Motorola has also released its Honeycomb tablet Xoom. Lenovo which is a leading PC maker has unveiled its contender LePad. However, what took the industry experts by surprise is the fact that it kept the launch limited to China its home turf. The company wooed the media in the country in a huge party which was held in Shanghai. LePad an Android tablet powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor went on sale.
Next month the much awaited BlackBerry PlayBook will be launched. Like iPad Lenovo is also selling the LePad with both WiFi and 3G versions. At the CES the device was shown as a part of a laptop convertible. The company has said that the product will be launched in other countries by June this year. Last year Apple held the majority of share in tablets sold worldwide. It may still remain the top slot holder this year but its share percentage may see a decline with so many contenders appearing on the horizon fast.
The industry experts hail Lenovo as a strong contender to Apple in the fast growing tablet market. Lenovo possibly wants to see how the device fares in its home market and based on the reaction it will release LePad in the other countries. iPad 2 has not been launched officially in China.
