President Hamid Karzai’s Aide Jan Mohammed Khan Killed

Kabul, Afghanistan, July 18, (PRINTWORDS NEWS) Citizens of Kabul were shocked and stupefied when a gunman attacked the top aide of President Hamid Karzai, Jan Mohammed Khan and killed him on his home on Sunday. This unfortunate incident has brought about turmoil and chaos in the city. The law enforcement officials said that the law maker of the President, Mohammed Hashem Watanwal died in this fateful attack. This incident has shaken the city brought about unrest as just a week before President Hamid Karzai’r brother Ahmed Wali Karzai was attacked and killed.

Mohammad Zaher, the Head of the Criminal Investigations Unit at the Ministry of the Interior told a reputed media outlet that on Sunday two or three armed men attacked the home of Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s senior aide and believed to have killed him. This assassination came as a major setback to the Government. The law enforcement officials said that the fighting continued for about two to three hours and then police interfered in this incident. Police says that Taliban soldiers took responsibility of this incident. Taliban also took responsibility of Mohammed Hashem Watanwal, an Uruzgan parliamentarian, who visited the side at that time.

The insurgents send an email where they stated that Mohammed Hashem Watanwal was on the target list of Taliban and hence the insurgents followed him to Afghanistan and made their mission successful one. Jan Mohammed Khan tried his best to go for peaceful negotiations with the Taliban and the Government. However, this attack clearly suggested that the Taliban soldiers are not at all interested in peaceful negotiations with the Government. Siddiq Siddiqi, the spokesperson of Interior ministry told a reputed media outlet that those insurgents were not suicide bombers as they were carrying weapons with them. Moreover, he also added that one of the attackers has been killed and the other is taken into custody.
