MAR 30 (PRINTWORDS NEWS)- Over the last few years the number of laptop users has grown by leaps and bounds. This is owing to the facts that laptops have become sleeker and more powerful. They are no longer sluggish siblings of the desktop PC. On the contrary, some of the latest laptops perform at par with the desktop and AIO PCs. If you decide to buy a new laptop you need to make sure that it is reasonably future proof. This makes sense because laptops are not as upgradable as desktops are. Therefore, you need to ensure that the model you buy has the latest and useful features which will ensure that need no upgrade in the next few years. However, it is easier said than done since technology changes very fast these days.
First you need to ensure that you buy a fast CPU. It is what powers your laptop. It would be wise to buy a new Intel core series CPU with dual and more cores. The Sandy Bridge chips are the fastest ones money can buy. They are expensive compared to AMD CPUs but be assured the Sandy Bridge CPUs excel at all tasks. You will be able to browse the web, edit a word document and play back HD video at the same time without any system bottleneck. They are also good for dealing with games and multimedia apps. Make sure that the laptop has at least 3 to 4 GB RAM with room for future upgrade.
Most of the media tasks can be handled by onboard graphics but if you want to play games you will need to buy a laptop with discrete graphics card. It is better if the graphics card has 1 GB of RAM and supports Direct X 11. It will ensure you will be able to play the latest games with visual effects enabled. The laptops with Nvidia Optimus technology can switch between integrated and discrete graphics and save battery power as well.
The hard disk is another parameter you need to consider. 500GB hard drives are becoming the norm and you can find laptops with 640 and 750GB drives as well. The capacity is your choice but it would be better to pick a laptop that has a faster 7200 RPM hard disk. The performance difference is noticeable.
You will need to transfer data from laptop to external storage devices and vice versa. Therefore it is better to buy a laptop that sports faster and latest interfaces. A laptop with an eSATA and USB 3 ports is ideal for the buyers. Both the interfaces are way faster than the dated USB 2 which is now showing its age.
If you watch a lot of movies you may prefer buying a laptop with glossy screen. The colors will pop out but remember these screens are reflective outdoors. Most laptops come with a resolution of 1366×768 and you may consider buying one with higher resolution and screen size. However, buying a big laptop means the portability factor will be compromised.
